I am most interested in understanding the value and importance placed on personal and professional relationships through the lenses of gender and racial diversity and the connection between these relationships and career attainment (e.g., upward mobility and perceived career success) to promote better leveraging of an important segment of the workforce, Black women.
My dissertation developed a framework for investigating the distinctive characteristics of how Black women relate to colleagues (e.g., peers, superiors and subordinates) beyond their job responsibilities and outside of the workplace, and the extent to which personal relationships (marital and family roles) affect their promotion to the executive-level managerial ranks in white-male dominated enterprises.
